As one way of the concept of delivering an efficient service to people through the public service as stated in the “Vistas of Prosperity” of  His Excellency the President, The Cabinet decided on July 1, 2020 to transfer the process of printing the Sri Lanka Driving License of the Department of Motor Traffic to the Sri Lanka Army from January 1, 2021.

The main objective of this project is to issue Sri Lankan driving licenses to the people of Sri Lanka in an efficient and effective manner, eliminating inefficiencies and misconduct in the process of issuing driving licenses.

Under this initiative, a new institution by the name of the Army Information Technology Solutions Center (AITSC) was established in the Department of Motor Traffic at Werahera.

Under this project, the Sri Lanka Army carries out printing of the driving licenses through a special security system after the computerization of the driving license applicants' biographical information through a very systematic process and implementing the IT infrastructure of a massive integrated computer system and performing full time maintenance of the system. In this integrated computer system, the identity card offices of 9 districts can be connected remotely and online.

This service was carried out by a Sri Lankan private sector company and a foreign company for over a decade and a half, and through carrying out of this service by the Sri Lanka Army, it will be possible to save the money lost in the drain of country’s money to foreign countries and prevent the disclosure of the bio-data of the Sri Lankan citizens to a foreign country.
