- Formulation of national policies on transport & implementation of programmes and projects based on such policies
- Development of an integrated national passenger and freight rail transport system
- Transport infrastructure development and providing railway services for passengers and freight
- Regulation of Motor traffic
- Registration and licensing of motor vehicles and issue of driving licenses
- Providing passenger ferry services by water
