An awareness program on the "First Aid Training and Life Saving Project" proposed to be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Transport and Highways, Red Cross Society - Colombo Branch, Sri Lanka Police at the Auditorium was held at the Ministry of Transport and Highways.

The aim of this project is to provide this first aid training to traffic police officers and drivers considering the importance of introducing correct first aid methods and preventing loss of life in daily traffic and road accidents.

If traffic police officers who are directly involved in road accidents, especially drivers, have a basic knowledge and practical training in first aid, there is a possibility of preventing major damages. In this programme attention was focused onincluding a training part on first aid training in the written and practical test that are held for the issuance of driver's licenses, and more streamlining the provision of first aid
Also, it was proposed to urgently implement a program to provide training on first aid to the staff working on the highway to enable them to act quickly in the case of road accidents in the highway network belonging to the Road Development Authority operating under the Ministry of Transport and Highways.
Minister Dr. BandulaGunawardena emphasized that the maximum co-operation and contribution of the National Transport Medical Institute, National Council on Road Safety and other institutions operating under the Ministry of Transport and Highways will be given to proceed with this project.
State Minister of Transport Mr. Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Director General of Road Development Authority, officials of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society - Colombo branch and other officials were present at this program.
