PROJECT TITLE
Introduction of Rail Buses for Eastern Railway line

INTRODUCTION
This project is to operate Rail buses covering Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Galoya Junction and Trincomalee on the Eastern Railway Line.

PURPOSE / BENEFITS

Meet the commuter demand in the Eastern Province
Facilitate efficient and speedy long distance services on the Eastern railway line
Enhance the demanded labour movement in the local agricultural sector
Support to minimize the poverty in the area

ESTIMATED COST

PRESENT STATUS
At present, two Rail Buses are operating from Batticaloa to Pollonnaruwa and Trincomalee to Galoya Junction twice a day and each rail bus is carrying about 150 commuters at a time.

More rail buses are expected to be added to the service in near future.
